Hello Members,

Last month I commented on the very cold weather around Australia, and sadly, this month seems to have continued the trend! I hope some warmer weather is soon on its way to all of you and you can begin to thaw out.

This month some issues of concern have been raised to the DTA Board. Those of you employed within the aged care sector will know of the cessation of the Dementia and severe behaviours supplement by the current Government. To date, there has not been discussion around what future funding in this area might look like. The Board have drafted a letter to Minister Fifeld’s office voicing, on behalf of the DTA members, concern around these changes.   A copy of the response has been posted in the newsletter and also on the website.

President's Piece
Hello Members,

How exciting is this new format? I know I really love reading this new version of the newsletter. I would like to formally thank Office Manager, Margie, and Newsletter Editor, Emma for all the hard work they have put in over the last few months in moving DTA forward into the electronic age!

Remember the feeling when you clean out the cupboards in the kitchen, or when you tidy bedroom storage areas? Well, this month has been like that at DTA. Still a lot of hard work, but more involved with things that people don’t ordinarily see. It has been a time of planning, checking, and review of where DTA is sitting, and what the Board needs to do to keep momentum. These are activities which any Board must engage in, and are the underpinning strengths of the Board, but are tasks which are often unnoticed by members.

From the Vice President (May Issue 2014)
I feel privileged to be writing this report (filling in for President, Louise Absalom) during a time of exciting change for DTA. Over the past several months you have heard a great deal of talk about the new website. Well finally, after an extraordinary effort from Louise, Margie, the marketing portfolio, the Board and the team from Fluid Marketing the website has gone “live”. Please take some time to navigate your way around the site. There are many interesting features, articles and information and of course the “member only” section. We look forward to your feedback about the website.
