Entries for March 2019

As we write this blurb I would like to update members that the Board has been working hard to be involved in bringing members issues to agencies which are representing many changes in the aged care sector.
During 2018 DRTA responded to the draft terms of reference call for comment for the accreditation standards which have since been finalised and are set to commence in July 2019. In light of the new standards Stephanie will be working on upcoming workshops for the new standards, so keep an eye out on the DRTA web site.

The minister of ageing and the accreditation agency are aware of DRTA and the issues members face in the aged care sector of low staff ratios, lack of budget and support for training.

After a fantastic inaugural Workshop on the Waves cruise in 2017, I was back for “Take 2”. The 2nd DRTA Workshop on the Waves heading to the islands of the south pacific.

Workshop on the Waves 2019 - Yasmin Pringle
On the 2nd of February 2019 and for the second time, I attended Workshop on the Waves. What another amazing 7 days! We left Brisbane on the Pacific Dawn and sailed to Noumea, Lifou and New Caledonia.

My husband and I were in New Zealand touring the North Island in February 2018, when the email advising of the next DRTA "Workshop the Waves" arrived in my inbox.

Excitedly, I asked my husband - albeit a bit tongue in cheek, him being an accountant - if he would like to come on a 'work' cruise with me. Mel agreed so I replied immediately to Diana that we would both love to come, paid our deposit. organised out paperwork, booked our flights form Adelaide to Brisbane, etc. etc. etc. and the year flew by and then it was time to board the Pacific Dawn.

Before embarking on Saturday, there was a notice at the Terminal

The board have been hard at work already (but don’t worry I did give them a break over the holidays!) to make this a great year for the DRTA. There is lots happening so stay tuned for all the updates!

After our AGM last September, some members approached the board about stepping in and filling the vacant board positions. After a unanimous vote by the board, we welcome the following members to the board. Kayla Davies – Vic State Representative, Janine Warne – NSW State Representative and Leah Sullivan – Qld State Representative. All 3 bring a wealth
